The president has blamed our university’s financial predicament on reductions in provincial funding, sector issues, and declines in both domestic and international student enrolment.
Today, let’s talk about ‘enrolment’.
Fact. SMU has had among the very worst enrolment declines in Atlantic Canada.
Fact. Over the period 2015-2023, all Atlantic universities had GROWTH in full-time enrolment, except four. SMU is in a small minority that has experienced a decline; and the only ‘large’ university to find itself in this unenviable position.
Other institutions have weathered the storm and managed these challenges. The same cannot be said for the leadership at Saint Mary’s.Â
